Founded on December 17, 1941, WSON-AM is one of Kentucky’s oldest radio stations. The station operates on 860 kHz with 500 watts twenty-four hours per day.

WSON has an extensive schedule of local programming and keeps its audience up to date with local, state, national and international news and the latest in weather and sports information. The Henderson Report airs each weekday at 7:30 am, noon and 4:00 pm and every Saturday at 7:30 am, and features local news, traffic information and local obituaries. Every weekday morning shortly after 8:00, the station airs the thirty minute award winning “Speak Up” program, which focuses on a topic of local interest.

WSON airs an extensive schedule of Henderson County football, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball games. In addition to high school sports, the station features play by play coverage of the University of Kentucky football and basketball games, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Tennessee Titans football and other NFL games.

Throughout its history, WSON has believed its mission is to focus on being a local station serving its community and it remains dedicated to being involved and serving Henderson County and the surrounding area. The station strives to keep up with the times with plans to broadcasts on the FM band through a FM translator at 96.5 mHz and by extensive news coverage on its website at wsonradio.com.
